Fazli: Women Cricket will affect our men Cricket

After the years of wait and uncertainty, the Afghanistan cricket board has made it public and clear for the first time, that the Afghanistan women cricket team will have an international tour soon and to grant 25 of them with the central contracts as well.

The news of having a women cricket team has made the future of women cricket in Afghanistan controversial even among the former administrators of the Afghanistan cricket board.

Azizullah fazli, the former chairman of the Afghanistan cricket board who is currently working as a senior advisor for the peace ministry has warned ACB on the bad circumstances if they continue highlighting women cricket.

Mr.Fazli said in a TV interview that, having a women cricket team in an Islamic country like Afghanistan with rich cultural values will surely affect men cricket and cricketers who are living in the remote areas of Afghanistan and warned that the current administrators will be accountable for any unwanted circumstances at the end.

He added Women cricket is a waste of time, there is no need for women cricket in Afghanistan; it is just a foreign project which will be not fruitful for Afghanistan in any case and will stand strongly against it as we did back in 2015 as I convinced the President HE. Ashraf Ghani who is also the patron-in-chief of Afghanistan cricket.

Former Chairman Future said, we don’t want to snatch anybody right but we have much priority to work on in Afghanistan cricket moving forward.

According to Azizullah Fazli, Afghanistan granted unconditional full membership by International Cricket Council (ICC) and there are no obligations on ACB that they must have women national cricket as the matter is solved and closed as ICC has been convinced that the current political and cultural situation is not allowing women cricket in Afghanistan.

Mr.Fazli said ACB has to improve men’s cricket, Infrastructures and re-launch the multi-million dollar project which is Afghanistan Premier League (APL) Project in the UAE suspended from the last two years.

He reminds ACB to have a lesson from the Afghanistan football case even it was a plot but defamed the image of Afghanistan badly.

Azizullah Fazli also hinted that Specific people trying to push back the Afghanistan cricket board and re-link it with the Afghanistan Olympic committee as their federation which could lead ACB to be banned by ICC and ruined its remarkable and historic achievements.
