International Cricket Council (ICC) today announces the women cricket qualification pathway for the 2022 Commonwealth games which is scheduled to be held in the United Kingdom.
This will be the first time in the last 24 years that women cricket will be part of the commonwealth games and one spot is open to grab through a global qualification process.
According to the ICC press release every team will have an equal chance to qualify for the historic event.
The 2022 Commonwealth games are scheduled to be held between 28 of July and 8th of August 2020 at the Iconic venue of Edgebaston of United Kingdom.
Six best rank teams in the ICC women T20I ranking will secure automatic qualification by 1st April 2021.
According to the (ICC), England cricket teams as a host and six other top rank teams in the T20I rankings by the first of April 2020 will be able to qualify directly and the last 8th spot will be decided base on a qualification tournament which will be announced in due course.
The deadline for the commonwealth games 2022 qualification tournaments is 31st January 2022.
Cricket last played in the Commonwealth games back in 1998 in Kuala Lumpur the capital of Malaysia.
The current leadership in the Afghanistan cricket board is too keen to develop and promote women’s cricket in Afghanistan but still unclear when they will officially announce their presence at the international stage and competition.
ACB already announce that they held recently a trial and training camp among 40 women cricketers in the Kabul Stadium where 25 best players will be given central contracts and will visit an Asian country for a training camp soon.
